Remember to Never Forget
Don’t you hate it when you think of a brilliant idea, only to forget it the next day or even next hour? I’ve done this a number of times when it comes to songs. An awesome idea would pop into my head while I was playing guitar or piano, and I’d be too lazy to break out a microphone and open up my recording to record the idea. Next thing I know, POOF, the idea is gone. Some of the best ideas I’ve had came to me while I was just messing around. To best capture these moments, I have set up a mic to always be plugged in so I have no excuse not to record the idea. When I am messing around on guitar or piano, the mic will be on to capture anything I’m playing at the time, just in case I need to reference it. I’ve also found that I think of a lot of quality melodies while I’m driving and listening to the instrumental tracks of new songs. I take advantage of this by using my phone to record melodies when a useable one comes around. The quality is not the best, but it can definitely be used to recall ideas.
